U.s. Seals Movie - Production company Nu Image (now Millennium Films) was active in the DTV action movies of the 1990s and 2000s. Nu Image can boast of creating a couple of classics in its day, but it's probably fair to say that most of its catalog fell below the average quality threshold for action entertainment. Five Operation Delta Force movies and three American ones. The Seals movies fall squarely into this category, all but one being generic pseudo-military action movies!
This exception is U.S. Seals 2, (also known as U.S. Seals II: The Ultimate Force) stands out as a beacon of awesomeness, and the main reason is the involvement of action director Isaac Florentine. Florentine directed one of Nu Image's all-time classics, Cold Harvest, in 1999, where he showcased his ability to create high-octane action on a shoestring budget. Two years later, he traveled to Bulgaria (as he used to do in his career) to travel to USA Seals 2 and created an absolute classic for martial arts fans.
U.s. Seals Movie
Former US Seals leader Frank Ratliff is hiding out on a remote island with a small army of mercenaries. He is building a nuclear warhead and plans to extort a few billion dollars from the US government. His ex-daughter, Lieutenant Casey Sheppard, is tasked with assembling a group of fighters and infiltrating Ratliff's base. All of them are great martial arts warriors, since the island is covered by an explosive cloud of natural gas that prevents the use of firearms. Instead, our heroes bring a stack of swords and an air gun that shoots balls of acid.
Navy Seals Vs. Zombies
Another movie about an evil mastermind on a deserted island and a commando sent to take him down? It sounds really boring, but Florentine successfully hijacks this terrible plot, discarding all the generic military talk and action, and replacing it with plenty of martial arts. The opening sequence of the archetypal guard camp attack may lead viewers to expect that this is just another lackluster military actor.
When one of the heroes suddenly misses as he fires two pistols from his hip, we get a clue that there's more to this movie than meets the eye. The scene after the penalty shootout changes things up when we learn that the members of the Seals team are also martial arts masters and receive words of wisdom from Sensei after training at the dojo.
And the movie continues with a bit of a strange feeling. The dialogues are the simplest, the characters are as one-dimensional as can be, and the most ridiculous lines are delivered with a straight face. This all creates a cartoony feel outside of the action scenes, and it doesn't really matter if this was intentional or not, it just adds to the fun!
There are no big action stars dragging the film down and in fact it is much better for the film as we can fully concentrate on the many action sequences and martial artists showing off their skills. US. In Seals 2, Florentine worked with young Hong Kong fight choreographer Andy Cheng (who also has a small role), who went on to act as a stuntman and fight choreographer on many Hollywood blockbusters and on the big hit TV show martial arts/fantasy Into The. We stopped.
Watch U.s. Seals 3: Frogmen
It all culminates in the US in Seals 2, and this impression is multiplied by the excessive use of swoosing sounds, not only during battle, but also outside of it. Every time someone picks up a gun, a sword, or even moves their head, there's a swooss! It seems Florentine still drew a lot of inspiration from his years working as COO of the Power Rangers TV series. Fun sounds, fast zooms, and smooth camera angles return in U.S. Seals 2. The big difference is that instead of harmless kid-friendly skirmishes, the movie produces action that hurts with plenty of broken necks and slit throats.
The first half features a couple of martial arts starters and then the brakes come off, with a 45 minute showdown where our brave seals race from battle to battle. The action hits fast and hard as the camera pans around the actors, and Florentine shows great skill in staging and capturing the battles with astonishing intensity.
Darts, swords, and chains are enthusiastically used for creative assassinations. There are more armed than unarmed fights, but that makes it even more exciting. We also get our fair share of punching people through walls and floors. Despite the very low budget, the film is sharp and sharp. Florentine has an eye for image composition and makes perfect use of the backdrop of massive industrial ruins in Bulgaria to create an almost post-apocalyptic feel.
Florentine puts two decades of American action movies to shame with this simultaneous genius and madness. US. Seals 2 is a great example of made-in-the-USA Hong Kong style action and another testament to his ability to create jaw-dropping action sequences!
